When I was building Withernot, I filled a moodboard with the outdoor brands that got it right. Brands with timeless products, authentic stories, and a reputation for making gear that only got better with age. Rivendell Mountain Works was one of the very first names on that board.
Founded in 1971, Rivendell earned a loyal following by making thoughtfully designed outdoor gear that was lightweight, functional, and built to last. The name, the history, the colors - it was everything I hoped Withernot could one day embody in the world of rugby shirts.
Years later, I learned Rivendell Mountain Works had been revived by its new owner, Mark Larese-Casanova, a professor in Utah State University's Outdoor Product Design & Development program and a passionate steward of classic outdoor gear. We connected over a shared appreciation for enduring products, and before long, this collaboration came to life.
Built on our signature heavyweight rugby, it features Rivendell Mountain Works' embroidered logo on an olive body with brown and burnt orange stripes inspired by some of the brand's most recognizable pack colorways. Like every Withernot rugby, it's made from heavyweight 14 oz. cotton with a roomy fit, twill collar, reinforced stitching, and rubber buttons, built to be worn hard for years to come.

14oz Heavyweight Cotton
Most rugby shirts today are flimsy and blended with synthetic fibers.
Ours are made from a custom-knit 14 oz heavyweight cotton fabric. No polyester. No stretch. Just substantial, heavyweight cotton that gets softer with age and develops character with every season of wear.

Withernot began with a painstaking journey: finding rugby shirts like the ones our dad wore in the 70s & 80s.
Heavyweight cotton. Rubber buttons. A sturdy twill collar. Reinforced construction.
After years of searching to no avail, we decided to take matters into our own hands and make our own.
